Will We Ever Leave?
Vishnu was here Krishna was here too now here you are and there will be your
future incarnations how different are you all really look
all your hands look the same dipped in paint pressed against the cave wall
hoping if no one else ever saw this at least the cave did the art even has
your fingerprints if the paint on a wall is never seen did it really exist
Are you Him again what is your purpose this time are you blue again
press your hand against this wall don't worry all walls are connected am I
your Lakshmi let's write more fanfics of ourselves come this time
I want to see our hands as ink on paper dents in fresh concrete
spray paint on the bricks of the highest floor
isn't it enough to just be here to spin and spin and spin how many
times will people need to fit their hands against ours isn't it enough to be
the same what difference does it make we will step where
our ancestors have admire the same sun ask her the same questions
divulge our same desires to the moon as if the two celestial
bodies don't gossip and sigh in the breakroom do you think climate change is
the result of our nagging
are we the start or end of a cycle does it matter if humanity
is a wheel we try to keep a tally ourselves but we are not allseeing we
have cried out I am here long ago in pompeii just
as I have today on the bench with sharpie nothing is original just
unheard of we are a repetition incapable of changing shapes
Soma (he/they/she) is a queer writer and student in Wellington, trying to figure out what to do with their life. In their free time, she tries to tell as many stories as she can, drinks too much green tea and buys books that he doesn't know when he'll have the time to read.
Poem note: Vishnu is a Hindu God and Krishna is one of his incarnations. Both of his forms have blue skin. Lakshmi is a Hindu Goddess and is the wife of Vishnu, whose incarnations also pursued/married Vishnu’s incarnations.
