eel mag accepts submissions of poetry from queer writers of aotearoa
submissions for the first online edition of our magazine are currently closed.
send us up to three poems! we are interested in written work, spoken word and all other poems that straddle form. whatever you can throw at us! if your poetry is meant to be performed, feel free to send us a video or audio recording.
your poems do not have to be ‘queer-themed’ (though they can be), they are queer poems by virtue of being written by a queer person.
email your poems to editors@eelmag.com and include a short bio with pronouns.
while we prefer unpublished work, feel free to send work you think would benefit from being on this platform! let us know where/when it has been published before.
copyright for all work published in eel mag remain with the author
we are able to pay all contributors a modest publication fee of $75. this is thanks to grants from the Mātātuhi Foundation and Blackbird Protostars, and the donated time of the editors.
*please note that we have a zero tolerance policy for work that is homophobic, racist, ableist, transphobic, fat-phobic, fetishising, appropriative or misogynistic
**work that deals with trauma is welcome here but consider whether your work might need a content warning (both for those reading submissions and future readers). we are happy to workshop this with you
